Version Control vs Click-to-Edit History
If you cannot see who changed the homepage and restore it cleanly, you do not have a history. You have a hope.
Builders edit production
Many hosted builders and WordPress logins change the live site as you type. Autosave is not a review. A second person cannot read a diff of a dragged section in any reliable way.
Static deploys change production when a reviewed build is published. The previous build can be restored.
History is for the whole site
A builder revision often stores a page blob. It does not store the template logic, the plugin setting, and the content as one change. Debugging becomes folklore.
A commit can include the content, the component, and the redirect together. That is the unit of change.
Clients can still be in the loop
Version control does not mean only developers may speak. Preview links, written change requests, and a CMS commit workflow all leave a record.
The record is the point. Click history is a convenience that disappears.
