Static Sites vs Wix

Wix is a hosted builder. It is convenient until the site needs to leave, load faster, or do something the template did not plan for.

Convenience is the product

Wix sells an editor and a host as one subscription. That is a reasonable way to get a page online. It is a poor way to own a website. The editor, the hosting, and the export limits are the same vendor.

A static site separates those concerns. The source can live in a repository the client owns. Hosting can move. The HTML does not depend on a proprietary canvas.

The page is heavier than the message

Hosted builders ship the editor’s runtime assumptions to the public site: extra scripts, layout systems, and third-party features that were easy to toggle on. The visitor pays for that weight on every load.

We would rather design the page and ship the bytes it needs.

Leaving should be possible

If the only complete copy of the site is inside the builder, the business is renting its public face. Exports that drop layout, URLs, or content are not ownership.

Static source is the copy. The deployed site is a build of that copy.
